Jefferson Launches Road Improvement Program; Dozens of Streets Scheduled For Paving
NJ DOT grant, NJ Natural Gas paving and township program combine for wide-ranging resurfacing effort.
JEFFERSON, NJ - Jefferson Township has kicked off its 2026 road resurfacing and improvement program following Township Council approval of the municipal budget last Wednesday, Mayor Eric Wilsusen announced.
Public Works crews have already begun prepping roads and completing drainage work. Some projects are expected to continue into the fall. The township will issue RAVE notifications and social media alerts as projects progress, officials said. All projects are subject to change.
The township received a $328,518 NJ DOT grant to mill and pave a portion of Weldon Road, with the township covering the remaining stretch from Saffins Pond to Dover-Milton Road. The township is also pausing its 10-year capital plan this year to prioritize roads where gas main installations have been completed.

Additionally, the state DOT plans to pave Route 181 this spring once NJ Natural Gas completes its gas main work in the area. Morris County will trim trees along Berkshire Valley Road from Taylor Road to Blue Road.
The following streets are scheduled for cape sealing: Great Sun Terrace, Mt. View, Tecumseh, Shenandoah, West Lakeview, Shawnee Parkway, Pathfinder and portions of East and West Shawnee Trail.

- Redwood Lane
- Reservoir Road
- Elm Street
- Lookout Avenue
- Spinnaker Way
Streets to be split between NJ Natural Gas and the township:
- East Shore Road
- Tulip Drive
- Log Road
- Teakwood Drive
- Windjammer Drive
- Lighthouse Circle
- Topsail Drive
- Elizabeth Road
- Jessica Court
Streets under the township's own paving program:
- Wegman Way
- Scenic Drive
- Weldon Road (Sparta Mountain Road to Dover-Milton Road)
- Milton Road
- Algonquian Terrace
- Chabon Court
