Jefferson Township Museum Opens War And Clothing Exhibit Sunday

JEFFERSON, NJ — A Jefferson Township museum will open its doors Sunday for a free look at local wartime history and period clothing.

The Township Museum Open House will run from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, September 13, at the Jefferson Township Museum, 315 Dover-Milton Road in Oak Ridge, according to the township’s event listing.

Visitors can explore “Deconstructed Foundations: Taking Apart War and Clothing in Jefferson 1775-1865,” the museum’s featured exhibition for 2026. The display examines the Colonial and Civil wars as they relate to Jefferson Township, with a special focus on clothing from both periods.

The exhibit includes outer garments and undergarments worn during those eras. Many of the displayed pieces are authentic, while others are reproductions, according to the township.

Docents and guides dressed in period clothing will help visitors through the exhibit. Guests may also take self-guided tours of Miss Elizabeth’s Garden.

Miss Elizabeth’s Shoppe, located in the museum’s original kitchen, will sell vintage and new merchandise during the open house. Proceeds support the Jefferson Township Historical Society’s annual scholarships.

The museum, also known as the George Chamberlain House, sits in Jefferson’s historic Milton Village. Admission to Sunday’s open house is free.
