Jefferson Twp Police Not Involved In Weekend Shooting: Police

New Jersey State Police non-fatally shot a man during an arrest for a domestic violence incident, police said.

JEFFERSON, NJ — Jefferson Township Police were not involved in a New Jersey State Police-involved shooting over the weekend, township police said in a statement.

The NJSP non-fatally shot a man in Lake Hopatcong on Sunday during a domestic violence investigation, the New Jersey Attorney General’s office said in a statement.

"No Jefferson Township Police Officers were involved in the original event," Jefferson Detective Joseph Kratzel said. Jefferson Township police provided a medical transport around 11:34 p.m.

Matthew Gerndt, 35, of Lake Hopatcong, was shot by a state police officer inside of his Brady Road residence Sunday night, the Attorney General's office said. Gerndt allegedly charged at officers as they were investigating a domestic violence incident. He was taken to Morristown Medical Center with a non-life threatening injury.
