
LAKE HOPATCONG, NJ — A Lake Hopatcong resident and The Academy For Mathematics, Science And Engineering student was awarded a National Merit Scholarship. Daniel Zhao was awarded the scholarship for outstanding academic potential.
Zhao is part of the first round of winners in the 62nd annual national Merit Scholarship Program, which awards corporate sponsored scholarships to over 1,000 high school students.
Zhao intends to pursue a career in economics. The award was sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds.

To be considered for the scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application, which included an essay, information about extracurricular activities, a school official recommendation and high SAT scores.
