Morris County to Observe Anniversary of 9/11 Attacks

It’s been nearly 13 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001 unfolded in front of the world.

Locally, Morris County has held Remembrance Service and Candlelight Vigil each year since after erecting a memorial on West Hanover Avenue in Parsippany Township.

The Morris County Board of Chosen Freeholders has announced the date of this year’s event, set to begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 7, and is inviting the public to join the event.

The observance will include the reading of names of Morris County residents who died as a result of the attacks as well as keynote remarks from Christopher Rodriguez, the new director of New Jersey’s Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness and Morris County native.

Sixty-four victims of 9-11 were from Morris County and are etched in plaques on the memorial.

Parking will be available at the Morris County Department of Human Services building at 340 West Hanover Avenue in Morris Township and shuttle buses will be available to transport those in need.
