Morris County Soccer Standout Accused of Raping, Strangling Woman at University of Delaware

A former Kinnelon High School athlete and current University of Delaware student is accused of raping a female acquaintance at their college over the weekend, police said.

Paul DeFeo, 21, of Butler, has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape, according to wdel.com.

A 21-year-old woman reported to police at 6 a.m. on April 18 that the University of Delaware’s soccer goalie sexually assaulted her after meeting the previous night at a restaurant, the report said.

When the business closed, the pair went back to the female’s residence with friends, where DeFeo allegedly sexually assaulted her in a bedroom, the report said.

DeFeo was arrested on April 19 and charged with rape and strangulation, and was lodged in the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $250,000 bond, the report said.

The university’s soccer page show’s DeFeo as a Civil Engineering major and was a varsity reserve for the Blue Hens in 2014. According to the bio, DeFeo was a three-year letter winner at Kinnelon High School and named first team all-conference in 2011.

During that 2011 campaign at Kinnelon High School, Tri-Boro Patch reported that DeFeo was set to step up as the team’s leader, serving as one of four team captains during his senior campaign.
