Morris OKs Pact to House Juvenile Offenders From Hudson County
Shared services agreement would bring $215 daily to Morris County for each youth, agreement runs through 2016.

A recently approved agreement between Morris and Hudson counties will see juvenile offenders from the northeastern New Jersey county lodged in the Morris Township facility as an emergency backup.
The Morris County Freeholders recently approved the agreement, which will send youth offenders from Hudson County to Morris in an overflow situation from the Union County juvenile detention center, which will house a maximum of 20 Hudson County youths when the facility there shutters.
The arrangement has Morris County providing housing, meals, supervision, and in-house medical and mental health services for the youths in a contract set through Dec. 31, 2016.

In doing so, Hudson County will pay Morris County $215 per day, per youth to house them in Morris County, plus a one-time medical examination fee of $100 per youth. Hudson County will also provide all required transportation and pay for any out-of-facility medical, dental and mental health services costs not covered by Medicaid or a third-party insurer.
Morris County Juvenile Detention Center is located in Morris Township and offers 42 beds. It costs $2.3 million per year to operate the facility, and in 2014 the county recouped $659,475 in similar contracts with Warren, Sussex, and Hunterdon Counties.
