Jefferson Student Comes In Second At NJSFWC State Spelling Bee

NJSFWC State Spelling Bee

The New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs of GFWC’s (NJSFWC) State Spelling Bee was held on March 3, 2018 at their Headquarters which is located on Douglass Residential College Campus.

There were 19 outstanding 4th and 5th grade spellers who were winners at the district level participated in the competition.

The Bee began with a practice round, with the contestants standing to spell their name. The words in the early rounds were easy becoming more challenging as the Bee continued.

Members of the NJSFWC Board of Directors participated in the day’s events; President Jean Revis welcomed the contestants and their families to the Bee. President Elect Mary Wolfe was the Pronounce. 2nd Vice President Jan Hanson served as the student coordinator. Recording Secretary Carole Speechley, Corresponding Secretary Darlene Grady, and Advocates for Children Chairman served as judges. Overseeing the Spelling Bee were NJSFWC Education Marie DiMatties and Spelling Bee Chairman Lisa Levin.

The Spelling Bee went to 21 nail biting rounds! The winners of the NJSFWC State Spelling Bee were:

1st Place Winner - Advitiya Jadhav, from Boys Charity Group in the College District.

2nd Place Winner – Nashwan Mahmud, from Jefferson Twp. Women’s Club in the Highlands District.

3rd Place Winner – Srinidhaya Vempati, from the River Edge Jr. Women’s Club in Palisades District.

Advitiya Jadhav spelled the winning word correctly “Singapore”. There was a huge round of applause after he was named the NJSFWC Spelling Bee Champion.

The prizes were, 1st Place a $100 TD Bank Card, 2nd Place a $75 TD Bank Card and 3rd Place a $50 TD Bank Card. Thank you to Connor, Strong & Buckelew of Marlton, NJ and the participating Clubs for providing the prizes.
