Rt. 15, Berkshire Valley Road Traffic Pattern Fixed In Jefferson

A change to the traffic light timing had caused major traffic issues.

JEFFERSON, NJ — After causing major traffic jams and eliciting outcry from frustrated drivers, the traffic signals at the intersection of Route 15 and Berkshire Valley Road have been reverted to the old pattern.

The new traffic light pattern was approved by the County of Morris and New Jersey traffic engineers, and was supposed to accommodate the timing for a new, left turn only light onto Route 15 north. Instead of making the drive easier, it caused major traffic jams for drivers.

Within a day of Jefferson Police posting online that they'd requested a fix, police announced that the traffic light pattern was reverted to the old way.

Drivers commented on department Facebook posts with gratitude.

"Great news! I am not sure they realized the amount of commuter traffic using route 80 via route 15. This added 25 minutes to my commute each way. Always happy to hear the township listens! Great place to live," one resident wrote.

"Thank you for the info! On the first day it changed I thought there was a bad accident or something. Then the delays were still there day after day and I noticed the Berkshire Valley light seemed very long. They need to come up with a better solution," a second resident said.
