2 Severely Burned In Fire In Abandoned Bank In Jersey City

A firefighter was also injured in the North Jersey blaze on Friday.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Two civilians and a firefighter were injured in a blaze in an abandoned bank building in Jersey City on Friday, officials said.

The Jersey City Fire Department responded to a call on Monticello Avenue Friday morning, said public safety spokeswoman Kim Wallace-Scalcione.

Firefighters saw flames inside the bank. The fire grew to three alarms, she said.

Firefighters were able to rescue two people, but both suffered severe burns and were taken to the hospital, Wallace-Scalcione said.

One firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries at the scene, she said.

She did not respond to questions about whether people were living in the building.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be sent as they become available, she said.
