📰 News we're reading

1. Jersey City Man Charged in Hit-and-Run Crash That Injured Pedestrian (rlsmedia.com) — A 23-year-old Jersey City resident has been charged after a hit-and-run at John F. Kennedy Boulevard and Duncan Avenue that left a 37-year-old woman injured earlier this month. Investigators say the driver fled in a Nissan Sentra, and the victim, also from Jersey City, was treated at Jersey City Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries.

2. Jersey City Police Officers Credited for Pair of Arrests Just Hours Apart (tapinto.net) — Jersey City police say two officers arrested suspects in separate violent cases during a single shift, including one wanted in a Syracuse homicide investigation and another tied to a local double shooting. The Cease Fire Unit’s work led to both arrests, and residents are urged to share any information through the department’s tip line or anonymous email.

3. New Jersey Police Fired For Off-Duty Marijuana Use Still Haven't Been Reinstated Despite Court Ruling In Their Favor (marijuanamoment.net) — Two Jersey City police officers fired for off-duty cannabis use still haven’t been fully reinstated, even after state judges and a recent appellate ruling sided with them. The new Solomon administration says it’s reviewing past policies, but the officers’ attorney argues the city is stalling on returning their old posts, back pay, and firearms, keeping the long-running dispute over New Jersey’s legalization law unresolved for local cops.

4. Reginald Sylvester II (artsy.net) — A contemporary artist who lives and works in Jersey City is gaining attention for large-scale abstract paintings and sculptures that blur the line between the two forms. His work uses unconventional materials and studio remnants to create layered, tactile pieces that reflect personal history and broader social themes.

5. HCST Community Resource Center slated to close after over 3 decades of service (hudsoncountyview.com) — A long-running Hudson County Schools of Technology Community Resource Center that also serves Jersey City residents is slated to close by the end of next month, cutting 15 jobs and disrupting job fairs and ESL classes. Staff warn the shutdown will hurt low‑income and immigrant residents across North Hudson and nearby cities, and are pressing county officials to preserve services or reassign employees.
