Baby Delivered On NJ Turnpike With The Help Of State Trooper

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City family has just gotten bigger after a baby boy was born on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.

On July 2, around 12:45 p.m., police were called to the eastern spur, milepost 113.3, in Secaucus on reports of a woman in labor.

A New Jersey State Police officer, who NJ.com identified as Freddie Guacamaya, arrived at the scene and assisted in the delivery of a baby on the side of the road, officials said.

Following the birth, the mother and son were both taken to a nearby hospital when EMS arrived, police said.

Mom and dad Kristen and Alex Fast recounted the harrowing story to , calling Trooper Guacamaya "fantastic."

Father Alex Fast added that he, in a pinch, ended up using an iPhone wire that was in the car to clamp the umbilical cord until paramedics arrived.

"Archer's healthy. He's thriving. He's a Jersey boy through and through. I don't think you get more Jersey than being born on the New Jersey Turnpike," Kristen Fast told ABC7 News.

The unorthodox birthplace of Archer won't be forgotten soon, as his birth certificate lists New Jersey Turnpike I-95, mile marker 113, as his birthplace, the report reads.
