The Brick Lane Curry House on Newark Avenue debuted House of Amrut this week, a speakeasy-style spot that pairs Indian single malt whiskeys with various authentic meals and appetizers.

House of Amrut — accessed through a secret door next to Brick Lane Curry, and down a few flights of dimly lit stairs — is dedicated to "the largest collection of Amrut whiskeys ever assembled in the United States," said a spokesperson.

Visitors can sample Amrut single malt whiskies from India, some of which are only found in that location, and pair them with a wide range of eats from the restaurant. The tastefully decorated downstairs area has several tables, chairs, and a bar.

Among the items available is a rare whiskey called Amrut Aatma 12-year-old rum cask finish, of which only 60 bottles were produced.

The cozy spot is the brainchild of Brick Lane Curry co-owner Satinder "Sati" Sharma.

"Sharma fell in love with Amrut in 2012, and visited the distillery in 2025," a spokesperson explained. "There, he discovered a myriad of Amrut Indian Single Malt Whiskies he didn't know existed. This revelation inspired a new chapter, and it has taken years for his vision to be realized as the House of Amrut."

Announcing the new spot, Shamra said that the collection and concept took him two years of work.

"Sharma is not just a fan of Amrut, he's a superfan, and he's excited to provide his guests with an opportunity to discover Amrut as he did," a representative said.

Besides the various expressions of Amrut, the House offers many cocktails and special beverages, from a whiskey sour to "ice breakers" and sweet dessert aperitifs.

This year is the fifth year for Brick Lane Curry House, located in the popular pedestrian plaza of downtown Jersey City, which has evolved into a lauded "Restaurant Row."

Sharma studied hospitality management at the Merit Swiss Asian School of Hotel Management in Ooty, India, and moved to New York and helped open the first Brick Lane Curry House in 2002.

"He is known for bringing the bold, spicy flavors of British-style Indian cuisine to New York, and he spearheaded the legendary Phaal curry challenge, a dish that is widely considered one of the spiciest and most punishing curries in the world," a spokesperson noted.

The opening of The House of Amrut coincides with the launch of Amrut's latest release, Kranthi Single Malt Whisky, a 40 percent ABV, non-chilled filtered whiskey that can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails.
