JERSEY CITY, NJ — A family-owned Jersey City restaurant has announced it will close later this month after 27 years in business.
Saigon Cafe said on social media earlier this week that their last day will be Nov. 22, a Sunday.
"It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude that we announce Saigon Cafe will be permanently closing its doors," they wrote. "Since opening in 1999, Saigon Cafe has been more than just a restaurant. It has been a place where friendships were made, families gathered, memories were shared, and our love for Vietnamese food brought people together."
They added, "Through all the changes, challenges, and unforgettable moments, your loyalty and support have meant everything to us...Although our doors will close, the friendships and memories we've made will stay with us forever."
The spot is located at 188 Newark Ave.
Fans expressed disappointment.
"My husband has been going to eat here since 1999!" wrote one woman. "It was the place of our first date in 2019. Great memories!"
The restaurant was not alone in closing; several dozen North Jersey eateries have announced closings in the past several months. Read the list, and their reasons, here.
However, many new restaurants have opened in the area. Read about five that recently opened in and around Jersey City here.
