The Brick Lane Curry House on Newark Avenue debuted House of Amrut last month, a speakeasy-style spot that pairs Indian single malt whiskeys with various authentic meals and appetizers. House of Amrut — accessed through a secret door next to Brick Lane Curry, and down a few flights of dimly lit stairs — is dedicated to "the largest collection of Amrut whiskeys ever assembled in the United States," said a spokesperson.

Visitors can sample Amrut single malt whiskies from India, some of which are only found in that location, and pair them with a wide range of eats from the restaurant. The tastefully decorated downstairs area has several tables, chairs, and a bar.

The cozy spot is the brainchild of Brick Lane Curry co-owner Satinder "Sati" Sharma. Read more about it here.

Il Vero

A restaurant co-owned by "Real Housewives of New Jersey" stars Gia and Teresa Giudice opened to the public in mid-October. The pair, along with restaurateur Maria Sausa, opened Il Vero in Westwood.

“Il Vero,” means truth in Italian. In a recent interview with Patch, Gia said the title comes from her family's truth-telling on reality TV. The spot was formerly Prohibition, but owner Sausa was looking for a change post-pandemic.

"It's a different way of clean eating with Italian food that a lot of people are not used to," Gia said. "So that you don't have to leave the restaurant feeling so stuffed ... we'll have crab pasta with lemon sauce, lobster dishes, meat dishes, lamb chops."

Il Vero is located at 170 Center Ave. READ MORE: Gia Giudice Talks About New Restaurant In Interview

Carlitos Barbecue Taqueria

A Mexican restaurant chain is opening several Northeast locations that will focus on pit-smoked barbecue tacos — including in Jersey City. The next location of Carlitos Barbecue Taqueria opened in the Newport Centre mall in Jersey City on Oct. 7. The location features their pit-smoked barbecue taco concept. Founder Carlos Castillo, who grew up in Queens, introduced concept of traditional smoked barbecue on hand-pressed corn tortillas in 2017. He started with a food truck in Jersey City and then a location in Paramus. The spot's also slated to come to Maplewood. Read more here.
