'Can't Describe The Pain:' Jersey City Mourns Teen's Death

Two people were shot, including a popular teen whose passing drew a number of people to talk about the "pain" of his loss.

Kamal was so young and ambitious, they said. "I can’t even describe the pain," another said.

Now the Jersey City community is mourning a 19-year-old man who has been identified as the victim of in a fatal shooting in New Jersey this week, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. A 21-year-old woman was also shot during the incident.

Kamal McCord of Jersey City was found with a gunshot wound to his torso at 21 Merseles Court, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez announced. A number of tributes have been posted on social media (see below).

The incident happened on Wednesday at approximately 9:50 p.m. when the Jersey City Police Department received a report of a male shot on Merseles Court in Jersey City. Responding Police Officers
found McCord inside a residence at 21 Merseles Court.

McCord was found in a lifeless condition with an apparent gunshot wound to his torso. McCord was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 10:00 p.m. The cause and manner of death are pending an
investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police Officers also found a female victim outside of a residence in the area of 17 Merseles Court. The 21-year-old female victim had an apparent gunshot wound to one of her extremities. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
