Man Charged In Fatal Jersey City Hit-And-Run
A Jersey City man was charged with leaving the scene of an accident that took the life of an elderly man.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 71-year-old Jersey City man was arrested Friday and charged in a crash in October that took the life of an elderly man in the McGinley Square section of the city.
Mohammad Ali, 71, of Jersey City, was charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in death, and endangering an injured victim, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said.
The victim was Mumtaz Chaudhry, 85, of Jersey City.

On Friday, Oct. 20, 2023, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was
notified of a pedestrian struck in the area of Fairview Avenue and Monticello Avenue, prosecutors said.
Police found a male victim – later identified as Chaudhry – in the area of Fairmount Avenue and Summit Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ali was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus Friday and released pending his first court appearance, prosecutors said.
The hearing is tentatively set for Friday, Feb. 13.
