Man Charged In Jersey City Heights Hit-And-Run: Prosecutor

A Jersey City man, 42, was arrested Wednesday for causing "serious bodily injury" to a pedestrian in a hit-and-run, prosecutors say.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 42-year-old Jersey City man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a hit-and-run crash in the Heights over a year ago that left another man with serious bodily injuries, prosecutors say.

Brandon Espinosa was charged this week with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle collision resulting in serious bodily injury and with endangering an injured victim, said the office of Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, at approximately 4:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a pedestrian struck at the Griffith Street and Sherman Avenue intersection, prosecutors say.

Responding officers found a 36-year-old Jersey City man with serious injuries.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment, prosecutors say.

"The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene and was recovered in the days following the collision," prosecutors say.

Espinosa was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 7, 2024, prosecutors said.
