Murder Of Dad In BJ's Parking Lot Ends In Conviction In Jersey City: Prosecutor

A father of 3 was shot to death at BJ's Wholesale in Jersey City in 2021. A Florida man has been convicted of the murder.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a father of three as shot to death in the parking lot of BJ's Wholesale in Jersey City in 2021, a Florida man has been convicted of his murder.

Ariel Dumit, 37, was convicted by a jury on Tuesday on all counts in the kililng of Christian Parra, 34, of Jersey City, on Feb. 28, 2021, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

After a two-week trial, Dumit was found guilty of first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Prosecutors said that on that evening, at approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Jersey City Police Department responded to BJ's at 396 Marin Blvd. in Jersey City on reports of a shooting.

They found Parra with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

Dumit faces 30 years to life in New Jersey State Prison at sentencing, which is tentatively

scheduled for July 13.

On a GoFundMe for Parra's family, his sister wrote, "We will never understand or comprehend this ill fated action or ever forget this godforsaken day."

Dumit was arrested in Florida in April 2021 and extradited to New Jersey.
