Peek Inside Hudson County's Newest Rooftop Event Space, The Sophia In Jersey City (PHOTOS)

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Owned by the former owners of the Hard Grove Cafe, the Sophia Rooftop is a new indoor and outdoor space looming seven stories above Jersey City's busy pedestrian pathway on Newark Avenue.

The rooftop can accommodate up to 300 people for weddings, birthday parties, graduations, bar mitzvahs, and smaller events.

On Monday night, the Jersey City Restaurant Association, which runs the annual Restaurant Week, held a networking event in the new space. (Incidentally, Jersey City Restaurant Week 2023 will take place July 15-28; get more information at jcrestaurantweek.com).

Here are some details about the Sophia Rooftop:

• The Rooftop ballroom features 18-foot vaulted ceilings and a series of glass doors that open to a view of the Jersey City skyline. The space also offers a bar with a picturesque terrace for cocktail parties and pre-event socializing.
• The venue features a roster of visiting chefs offering a wide range of cuisines under the direction of executive director Carmen Mendiola. The venue is also available for hire to chefs wishing to host an event there, with a full-service kitchen facility.
• The venue offers a fully-stocked bar that offers wine, beer and classic cocktails as well as a seasonal drink menu of artisanal specialty drinks.
• The Sophia Rooftop offers memberships that provide patrons with access to its restaurant, bar, lounge and rooftop deck as well as live music events. Only individuals nominated by existing members are eligible to apply. The annual fee is $2,500. A one-time initiation fee is $250.
