Resign, Rallygoers Urge Jersey City Councilwoman After Hit-And-Run

The UberEats delivery driver whom Amy DeGise hit with her car said he was not "seeking out a vendetta" at Saturday's rally, a report said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The bicyclist whom AmyDeGise hit with her SUV was among the speakers at a rally Saturday calling for the Jersey City Councilwoman's resignation, a report said.

Andrew Black was on his bicycle delivering for UberEats on July 19 when the first-term councilmember hit him in the intersection and continued driving away, video shows.

The crash can be seen at the 1:00 mark in this video posted by NJ.com. The video shows Black went through a red light when DeGise hit him with her right front bumper, leaving him sprawled on the pavement several yards from the bike.

Black has raised more than $4,200 as of Monday morning on GoFundMe to pay his bills, as he says the bike no longer works.

At a rally Saturday, Black said he wants "justice" and is not "seeking out a vendetta," according to The Hudson Reporter. Black said he was grateful to be alive at the gathering, which took place on the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza.

Other speakers condemning DeGise included former congressional candidate Hector Oseguera and Jimmy Lee of SafeStreets Jersey City.

Two council members and two Jersey City street safety groups called on her to resign last Wednesday.

DeGise has declined to comment extensively, but said in NJ.com, "I acknowledge this unfortunate event yesterday and I'm thankful that no one was seriously hurt."

More video released on Friday showed that DeGise went to police headquarters to report the crash six hours afterward, accompanied by a man.
