Video Shows Jersey City Man Being Fatally Shot By Cops, As State Continues Probe

JERSEY CITY, NJ — After a Jersey City man was fatally shot by police on Oct. 21, his family said officers shot had him in the back, and urged officials to release the footage. On Friday, the state Attorney General's Office — which is still probing the fatal police shooting of Teshawn Rogers, 27 — released footage (see below) that shows the exchange of gunfire.

The footage shows a police car pulling up to a residential street. A man begins shooting. Then, a police officer shoots the man dead. An officer is heard saying, "What the f---" several times, and others ask if their colleagues are okay.

The New Jersey Attorney General's Office investigates all police-involved shootings to comply with a 2019 law.

The state said on Friday that they are continuing to investigate.'

They said that according to the preliminary investigation, two members of the street crimes unit were patrolling in an unmarked car that morning. Police spotted Rogers in the area of Bergen and Virginia avenues shortly after 1 a.m. When the police pulled over, Rogers immediately shot a gun and ran southbound, they said.

A second police vehicle pulled to the side of the road. Officer Lance Jackson got out and shot Rogers, the state said.

Rogers was taken to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at 1:44 a.m.

The video shows that Rogers' gun landed in someone's yard.

The state said no further details are being released at this time.
