HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Only five counties in New Jersey have a paid Hudson County executive. Hudson County's executive — up for election this year — oversees the administration of county parks, roads, the jail, personnel, and other facilities.

But who will get the nomination to replace outgoing County Executive Tom DeGise this November?

DeGise's chief of staff, Craig Guy, is hoping to get the Democratic nomination in the June 6 New Jersey primary, and he's backed by the powerful Hudson County Democratic Organization. But he faces opposition in the primary by Eleana Little, backed by the Hudson County Progressive Democrats.

No Republicans have filed to run in the primary in June. Independent candidates may also run this November.

On Saturday, both Democratic hopefuls met in a candidate forum sponsored by the Journal Square Community Association.

Residents asked them questions about topics including road safety, parking, taxes, and widening the New Jersey Turnpike.
