1st Positive Coronavirus Case Reported In Lacey

The Ocean County Health Department has confirmed 53 cases as of Friday afternoon.

LACEY, NJ — Officials confirmed a case of the novel coronavirus in Lacey for the first time Friday. The Ocean County Health Department has confirmed 53 cases as of Friday afternoon.

The OCHS has reported one death from the coronavirus but did not reveal any information about the patient.

COVID-19 is caused by a member of the coronavirus family that's a close cousin to the SARS and MERS viruses that have caused outbreaks in the past. The OCHD recommends the following:

  • Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Avoiding touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying home when you are sick and avoiding contact with persons in poor health.
  • Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then disposing of the tissue.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
