Belmar Man Tried To Shoplift Items In Ladies Room

Carmine Sperrazza also charged with driving under the influence, Lacey police chief says.

Lacey police recently arrested a Belmar man at the Auto Zone on Route 9 North in Forked River after he tried to shoplift items from the store in the ladies room, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Officer Noah Schaffer responded to the store at 6:08 p.m. on April 2 on a shoplifting report. The store employee told police he saw a man acting suspiciously, then enter the ladies room, the chief said.

The man left the store with items stuffed in his front sweatshirt pocket. The empty packages from the items was found in the ladies room and police were notified, Paprota said.

Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of Carmine Sperrazza, 27, 11th Avenue in Belmar for shoplifting and  an outstanding $693 Wall Township Municipal Court warrant. Sperrazza was transported to police headquarters where he was processed and charged with hoplifting a 400 watt Duralast Brand power inverter valued at $49 and a one thousand watt power inverter valued at $99. Sperrazza was also charged with driving under the influence, the chief said.
