At 10 p.m. is the luminaria ceremony, where lanterns are lit to remember those lost to cancer.
The first Relay For Life was in 1985, when Dr. Gordon “Gordy” Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, raising money to help the American Cancer Society.
It grew into a 19-team event the next year and eventually become the overnight nationwide movement it is today.
