Car Bursts Into Flames In Head-On Lacey Collision: Police

The drivers of both cars were injured in the crash and taken to local hospitals, police said.

LACEY, NJ — A head-on collision Tuesday afternoon in Lacey resulted in one car bursting into flames and both drivers being hospitalized, police said.

Around 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 8, police responded to the crash on Lacey Road, just west of Dover Road, Lacey police said.

A 46-year-old woman was driving east when her car, a 2021 Land Rover, drifted into the westbound lane, colliding head-on with a 2005 Mazda Tribute being driven by a 77-year-old Whiting resident, police said.

The collision caused the Land Rover to burst into flames, which was extinguished by the Forked River Fire Department, police said.

The Whiting woman was seriously injured and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, police said.

The Land Rover driver also suffered "significant injuries" and was taken to Community Medical Center, police said.

Responding agencies included the Forked River Fire Department and Robert Wood Johnson Paramedics. The Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office also responded to assist in the investigation.

The Lacey Township Crash Team is investigating. Any witnesses to this motor vehicle crash are asked to contact the Lacey Township Police Department at 609-693-6636. Investigating Officer is Patrolman Scott Keefe.

The drivers' names are being withheld pending family notification.
