UPDATE: Lacey Road Reopened After Crash That Injured 4, Downed Pole

Two vehicles collided between Newark Avenue and Kearney Avenue this morning, police say.

Lacey Road has reopened after a morning crash between Newark Avenue and Kearney Avenue.

Earlier story:One man was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and three others were taken to a local hospital after a two-car crash on Lacey Road Friday morning, Sgt. Paul Sullivan said.

The accident occurred at 9:07 a.m., when the two vehicles collided. One of the vehicles left the roadway, then struck a utility police, Sullivan said.

"As a result, the utility pole broke and fell to the ground along with the attached wires," he said.

The three men in the vehicle that struck the pole were injured. One was taken by helicopter to Jersey Shore, the other two were taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River. The driver of the second vehicle sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Community Medical Center, Sullivan said.

Lacey Road is closed between Newark Avenue and Kearney Avenue. The road will remain closed while crews from Jersey Central Power & Light and Verizon complete repairs, he said.

The accident remains under investigation.
