LACEY, NJ — Before the Caffrey's Tavern fire, a photo hung of Joshua Smith and his teammates. The photo, titled "Men of Autumn," survived the fire. Smith's recent diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) puts him in another battle of resilience.

A benefit for Smith will take place from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 29 at Captain's Inn. You can donate to the gift auction on this GoFundMe entitled "Touchdown for Josh."

Smith, 30, is currently trying to get into a trial study that has medication to help prolong ALS symptoms, according to the GoFundMe. He is unable to work, so the fundraiser is aimed to help him and his family.
