Guard Dog In 'Pitiful Shape' Rescued, Brought To Lacey Shelter

LACEY, NJ — Animal control officers found Mimi chained up in an abandoned car lot. Now the Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter is giving the female mastiff a new lease on life.

AHS officers found Mimi in Irvington in Essex County. She was in "pitiful shape after being kept on a heavy chain," AHS said.

When they traced and contacted the owner, he said he didn't want the dog anymore, so she ended up abandoned in the lot.

"The 3-year-old received no love or loyalty from anyone who she came in contact with throughout her life," AHS said, "just used as a guard dog."

When Mimi came to the shelter, she had an untreated eye infection. She was just skin and bones, and they could see the disappointment on her face.

Now she's getting good meals, warm blankets and medical care. Once she recovers, Mimi will want a forever home.
