Karl Keffer III, U.S. Korean War Veteran, Dies At 84

Forked River resident operated the Bay Book Store for more than a decade.

Karl Keffer III, 84, of Forked River, passed away Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, in his home.

He was born in Scarsdale, NY, a son of the late Karl, Jr. and Anne Parrot Keffer. Mr. Keffer attended Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, PA. Upon graduation, he served his country as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps in Korea.

He remained active in the Reserves for a number of years following his tour of duty. He spent his entire career as an executive in the steel industry, first with Wheeling Pittsburgh and then National Steel. After retirement, he and his sister, Anne, operated the Bay Book Store in Forked River for over a decade.

He was married to Anne Stapledon Keffer, who passed away on March 30, 1990. He is survived by two sons, Karl IV and Scott (Beth) and a daughter, Karen Dobson. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Darcey, Kristy, Josh (Andrea), Anni, CJ, Nikki, and Matt (Selena) and two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Abigail. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015 at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Main Street, Forked River. A service will follow at 11a.m. Interment will be private.
