Lacey Brush Fire Burns About Five Acres: Cops

State Forest Fire Service rules blaze in woods off Kennebec Road as accidental, police say.


Firefighters from the Forked River Fire Department and the state Forest Fire Service contained a five-acre brush fire in the woods southwest of Kennebec Road late today, Sgt. Ronald Buxton said.

Lacey police Department received a 911 call from a resident who was reported a large amount of smoke in the distance coming from the wooded area behind his home on Clearview Street in Forked River, Buxton said.

Firefighters quickly contained the fire. No homes or businesses were threatened and no evacuations were needed, he said.

Forest Fire officials are monitoring the scene and are presently burning out fuels in advance of the fire as a safety measure to eliminate the chance of any reigniting," Buxton said.

The fire was ruled accidental by the state Forest Fire Service, he said.
