Lacey Firefighters Honored For Rescuing Driver From Car In Pond
Edward Barker and Edward Barker Jr. rescued the driver from the frigid water in December.

LACEY, NJ — Two Lacey firefighters were honored Thursday for rescuing a driver whose car was submerged into Mill Pond last December. Lanoka Harbor Fire Company President Edward Barker and his son, Forked River firefighter Edward Barker, Jr. were recognized at Thursday's Lacey Township meeting.
Police were dispatched Dec. 15 for a report of an occupied vehicle submerged in Mill Pond. The Barker's headed to Mill Pond without hesitation, finding a vehicle about 50 feet from shore. They could see at least one person entrapped.
The Barker's entered the frigid water to help the 18-year-old driver out through the sunroof. They ensured nobody else was in the vehicle. The Barker's helped the driver back to shore without injury.
