Lacey Police Adjust Protocols During NJ Coronavirus Spread

Lacey police are taking precautions, including a new way to file reports online. Here's what to know.

LACEY, NJ — The Lacey Township Police Department has adjusted some protocols during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

The agency developed a way for the public to report non-emergent incidents online. Visit their website, and click the red bar on the homepage that says "File Police Report Online."

Chief Michael C. DiBella put a temporary modified patrol response in place last Wednesday. The goal is to help decrease in-person contact with others and mitigate the risks associated with transmission. People who don't show symptoms may still carry the disease, according to the Center for Disease Control.

Lacey officials asked for limited public access to all parks and Township-owned buildings — not including the police department, which will remain open. But all other public buildings, including the Municipal Building, will have limited access.

All gatherings should be canceled or postponed to comply with social distancing measures, according to DiBella and Mayor Steven Kennis. The instruction comes at the direction of President Donald Trump, Governor Phil Murphy and health officials.

"The Township of Lacey is encouraging our residents to use the mail, telephone Town Hall, or send an email during this time," DiBella said in a statement. "Tax, water/sewer payments, business licenses, construction permits, etc., may be made online through the Lacey Township Website, www.laceytownship.org."
