Lacey Police Arrest Two After High-Speed Car Chase

Lacey police recently charged a Forked River man with eluding and resisting arrest and a Barnegat woman with drunk driving after a car and foot chase, Police Chief David A. Paprota said.

Officers received a call at 7:34 p.m. on May 6 about an intoxicated driver heading east on Beach Boulevard. Officer Julie Barcalow saw the vehicle a short time later and tried to stop the car. But the driver, Thomas Carrano, 23, Enterprise Drive, left the area at a high rate of speed, the chief said.

Barcalow found the vehicle in the area on Sarasota Drive, Thomas Carrano exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officer Barcalow observed that the passenger, 20-year-old Michelle Marold of Bowline Street in Barnegat, moved into the driver seat of the vehicle to operate the vehicle, Paprota said.

Investigation at the scene led to the arrest of Michelle Marold for driving under the influence.The vehicle was impounded pursuant to John’s Law. Marold was transported to Lacey Township Police Headquarters, where she was also charged with reckless driving, and underage consumption of alcohol, he said.

Carrano was later located by Officer Anthony Sarno and Officer Scott Keefe, who saw him walking in the area of Beach Boulevard and Sandy Hook Drive. Carrano fled from the officers on foot and was arrested in an area of reeds near the Beach Boulevard Bridge, the chief said.

Carrano was taken to police headquarters, where he was charged with eluding and resisting arrest by flight. He also had an outstanding $1,000 Lacey criminal warrant and a $1,500 criminal warrant out of Ocean Township. He was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River in lieu of $20,000 bail.
