Lacey Police Charge Manahawkin Man With Assault By Auto: Police Chief

Michael Pillarella fled the scene after the accident in Forked River.

A Manahawkin man is facing assault by auto charges and numerous other summonses after he fled the scene of an accident, Police Chief Michael DiBella said.

Michael Pillarella, 22, Sextant Drive, was also charged with driving while on the suspended list, reckless driving, following too closely, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle with injuries, failure to report an accident and driving without insurance, the chief said.

Sergeant Dimitri Tsarnas and Officer George Resetar responded the accident at the intersection of Lacey Road and Harrison Avenue in Forked River at 6:42 p.m. on Aug. 24. Pillarella fled the scene on foot, but was quickly located, DiBella said.

He was taken to police headquarters, processed and released. His vehicle was impounded.
