Lacey Police Share PSA Amid Summer Power Outages
Do you know what to do if a traffic light goes out during a power outage? Lacey police are making sure that everyone does.

LACEY, NJ — Summer brings with it blue skies and hot weather, but it also brings thunderstorms that can knock power out frequently.
In light of this, Lacey police are taking July to share various public service announcements with the community, the first of these focusing on traffic lights and power outages.
"Our beautiful New Jersey summers bring with them the threat of severe weather," police said. "As history has taught us, it is almost a certainty this will result in unplanned power outages from time to time as storms move through our area."

During power outages, traffic lights may become inoperable. If this happens, police remind residents and visitors alike that they must treat the intersection like a four-way stop. Drivers must stop in every direction, and it must be treated as if there were a stop sign.
"We have taken steps to plan for and try to stay ahead of these conditions, including having many of the intersections rewired to allow for temporary generator usage," police said. "Unfortunately, these storms often present a wide range of other issues throughout town that strain our resources, and having officers stationed at every intersection during severe storms or widespread power outages is often not a realistic option."
