Lacey Shelter Rescues Cat Left Out For Garbage Pickup

Associated Humane Societies has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who endangered the cat.

WARETOWN, NJ — An Associated Humane Societies animal control officer found a cat placed with curbside trash Sept. 16 in Waretown. AHS has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who endangered the cat.

A Barnegat Beach Drive resident came home and found a pet carrier near his garbage cans. The carrier was turned inwards, possibly so that no one would find the cat inside when the garbage was picked up, according to the AHS Popcorn Park Shelter in Lacey.

AHS dispatched Animal Control Officer Maria Cymanski to the scene, where she retrieved the frightened cat. The shelter named him Cinnamon because he "smelled like Christmas" when he arrived, AHS said.
