Lacey Woman Falls Victim To 'Comcast' Scam Call: Police
A woman was asked to purchase Google Pay cards after getting what she thought was a call from a Comcast employee, police said.
A Forked River woman was scammed out of $450 after receiving a call she believed was from a Comcast employee, Lacey police said. The unknown caller said that her computer IP address was compromised and that their tech-service department would correct the problems, according to police.
He called her back shortly after and said he found several attempts to access her accounts, police said. The unknown caller asked her to purchase $450 in Google Pay cards and provide the card information, and she complied, police said.
The caller said he would continue to work on the computer problems and call her back Sunday, police said. He called back Sunday and said he needed more money to fix additional problems, according to police.

At that point, she became suspicious and contacted her financial institutions to freeze her accounts, police said. She was advised to monitor her credit for the next few months for suspicious activity.
Officer Jeffrey Slota took the computer-fraud report Monday on the 200 block of Chestnut Lane, police said.
