LACEY, NJ — The Oyster Creek Nuclear Generation Station will play its greatest hits one last time. The final semi-annual, full-volume sirens test will take place at noon Tuesday, June 4.

Forty-two sirens within a 10-mile radius of the generation station will go off. They'll sound for three minutes. The power plant permanently ceased operations last year after running since Dec. 23, 1969.

The siren system had to stay in operation under local, state and federal agency requirements “until certain emergency procedures and processes are no longer in place,” according to a statement from Exelon Generation. Holtec International and Exelon announced in July that the former wants to purchase the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station from the latter.
