Local Salon Supports U.S. Troops

Tre Chic Salon and Day Spa gives clients a 10 percent discount for three items to donate to the troops

Join Tre Chic Salon and Day Spa in supporting our troops this summer.

Tre Chic on Route 9 in Lacey Township is offering customers 10 percent off of their total services and purchases for the month of July and August for those who bring in three items for the troops.

The salon and day spa worked with Berkeley Township’s council members Judy Noonan and Carmen Amato as well as Lloyd Mullikin, former supervising geologist of the Department of Environmental Protection, to coordinate the project.

“It doesn’t matter what you feel about the war, you’ve got to support our men,” said Noonan, a regular client at Tre Chic. “Sometimes we just have to do the right thing.”

Mullikin started collecting packages from organizations for troops stationed overseas about nine years ago but has gotten more involved since he retired four years ago. Just today, he sent three boxes weighing over 30 boxes each to units.

“Because we get so much, we’ve been able to help other groups like schools and homeless shelters but the troops are always number one,” Mullikin said.

Tre Chic got involved because employee Christina Rosetti’s husband, Jayson Hennelly, serves in the army’s 77th Sustainment Brigade, which is currently stationed in Iraq.

“It’s their work that made it happen,” Noonan said of the salon.

Hennelly, a 2002 graduate of Central Regional High School, was deployed on Jan. 22, 2011 and is expected to return towards the beginning of January.

The salon has had a great response to the project thus far, said Rosetti, a resident of Bayville and a 2005 graduate of Central Regional. Many who have never been to the salon have been inquiring about the fundraiser online.

“It really took off,” Noonan said. “I think people are just patriotic and they want to help.”

The salon is looking for a variety of products from shampoo to pens and pencils. The items will go to different units, including medical and combat.

“It’s good to get others in the community to help,” Amato said.

The salon is specifically asking for the following items: shampoo and conditioner; sun tan lotion; bug spray; chap stick; q-tips; eye drops; small powdered drink mixes; mouthwash; granola, cereal, and protein bars; batteries; gum and breath mints; snack foods and slim jims; microwaveable foods and soups; popcorn and sunflower seeds; coffee packets and tea bags; medical items such as aspirin, cough, vitamins, and band aids; shaving cream and razors; white or black socks; hard candy; and pens, pencils, and writing paper.
