LACEY, NJ — Lacey Township will be selecting an interim mayor after the passing of sitting Mayor Nicholas Juliano at the March 24 council meeting, government officials said.

According to New Jersey law, to fill the vacancy the Lacey Township Republican County Committee must first accept resumes from interested candidates within their party. Candidates are interviewed within 15 days of the vacancy and then up to three are selected and submitted to the governing body.

The governing body then has 15 additional days to choose who will fill the vacant seat until the end of the year. If that candidate wants to remain mayor after the end of the year, they must run on the November General Election ballot if they want to serve through the end of Juliano's intended term, which was to be December 2023.
