Missing Lacey Campaign Signs Found At Rival Treasurer's Home
Police were dispatched for a report of theft, but the man says the signs showed up on his lawn.
LACEY, NJ — Campaign signs that went missing in Lacey were found at the home of the rival campaign's treasurer. Lacey police were dispatched for a report of theft, but the treasurer claims the signs showed up on his lawn.
The signs supported three candidates for Lacey's Board of Education: Sonia Marchitello, Gavin C. Rozzi and Salvatore Armato. They have campaigned jointly against four candidates: President Shawn J. Giordano, board members Linda A. Downing, Harold "Skip" Peters, and candidate Donna McAvoy.
John Dodaro is serving as treasurer for the joint campaign of Downing, Peters, Giordano and McAvoy. He said in a Facebook post that the signs were at his home. But Dodaro claimed the signs were placed on his lawn and he doesn't know how they got there.

"No need to investigate... I’m the only suspect," Dodaro replied to a post from Rozzi about the incident. "When the signs ends up on my lawn it ends up in my garage. I’m a gentleman and respect the fact that the signs aren’t cheap. Like I told Lacey’s finest, you’re more than welcome to have them back. Just stop by, you know where I live."
Police responded to the incident Thursday. No charges have been filed. The initial police report did not have information on where the signs were stolen from, and the department has not yet responded to a request for an update.
