Oyster Creek Decommissioning 'On Track,' Holtec Says
In a quarterly update shared with the Lacey Township Committee, Holtec said that Oyster Creek decommissioning will be complete by 2030.

LACEY, NJ — The decommissioning of the Oyster Creek Power Plant is going well, Holtec International said recently.
An official with Holtec gave a quarterly update to the Lacey Township Committee recently and said that decommissioning activities were "on track."
It should be completed by 2030, he said.

Two first aid incidents were reported - one was a worker stepping in a pot hole and was given an aspirin, and the other was a worker stepping on a curb and reinjuring an existing injury, which they were given an ice pack for, he said.
About 20 million pounds of waste has been removed from the site, and the official added that a quarter of it has been recycled, reused and repurposed.

"That's one thing that we're focusing on that other companies do not," he said.
The amount being recycled is expected to get up to 40 percent, Holtec said.
And the schedule for decommissioning has not been changed, he said.
"We're right on target," the official said.
Additionally, Holtec completed community outreach, including a food drive for the Lacey Food Bank and a donation of $10,000 to the township.

Part of this includes reusing the Oyster Creek site, according to Holtec, which could be building a "green energy farm" that would have multiple sources of infrastructure.
