Oyster Creek Power Plant Could Become 'Green Energy Park'
Holtec shared a quarterly update on the decommissioning of Oyster Creek and what its future could look like.

LACEY, NJ — The decommissioning of the Oyster Creek Power Plant is going well and in the future the site could house a "green energy park," according to officials with Holtec International.
Oyster Creek Site Vice President Jeff Dostal shared this information in a quarterly update at a recent Lacey Township Committee meeting.
"It's pretty boring," Dostal said of his report. "Everything is going as planned."

Buildings have been demolished and 577 tons of metal have to be removed. Holtec is also going to start the external demolition of the reactor.
"That sets us up for any type of new infrastructure that we put on the site," Dostal said. "So we're thinking ahead."

Last year, the township, along with BRS, Inc., held a presentation outlining Lacey's economic future using Oyster Creek land. The goal is to attract and retain jobs and residents following the economic loss of the power plant. Read more: Post-Oyster Creek, Lacey Looks To Attract New Industries

Committeeman Tim McDonald referenced how Holtec is reopening a power plant in Michigan and asked if there was any chance of that happening in Lacey.
Dostal replied that he wanted to turn Oyster Creek into a "green energy park," repurposing the site.
"We are talking about - to a number of different companies - hydrogen generation, battery production, wind, solar, different types of wind. Not the big turbines you see offshore, these are small generating turbines that are close to the ground. Solar panels that are different and unique," Dostal said.
In addition to the report, Dostal presented the Township Committee with a $10,000 check as a way of "giving back" to the township.
