Report: Slain FDNY Firefighter A Stranger In Barnegat Light
Richard P. Doody, 60, was found with severe head trauma and his throat slashed; suspect Conrad Sipa and victim often went on diving trips.

Few in the tiny town of Barnegat Light knew Richard P. Doody, a decorated NYPD firefighter who was found brutally slain in his Central Avenue home on Nov. 21, according to Philly.com.
That’s probably because Doody bought the $700,000 home less than a year ago, in January 2015. He split his time in Barnegat Light and the Tottenville section of Staten Island, where he lived with Ginny Murray, his wife of 30 years.
“The biggest thing is how little we know,” said Nick Martyniak, a waiter at Kubel’s. “No one at the deli knew him. No one at the diner knew him. No one at the gas station. No one at Kubel’s. No one had seen him, heard of him.”

None of the locals interviewed at Kubel’s recently knew anything about Doody.
But a friend interviewed by Philly.com said Conrad Sipa, 52, the man charged with Doody’s murder, were diving buddies.

Text messages may have led police to the suspect, who had apparently invited himself to Barnegat Light that weekend, a friend said.
Sipa had no prior criminal record. He is being held in the Ocean County Jail on $1 million bail.
It was the first murder in Barnegat Light since 1962, when a girl’s body was found in the woods after she had been abducted.
