The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office is hoping witnesses to a single-car crash in the Barnegat woods that may have injured five people will come forward with information, spokesman Al Della Fave said.

Barnegat police received a call at 10 p.m. on Sunday night about the crash in a wooded area near the “TBS Pit“ just outside the Pinewood Estates at 2 p.m. that day, he said.

“The phone call was placed eight hours after the crash by a victim who was stuck standing among a group of individuals outside the car watching the off-road activities,” Della Fave said.

Witnesses can call OCPO Major Crime Unit Detective Mitchell Remig at 732-929-2027.

The caller told police that up to five victims who were either inside the car or outside had been driven to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment. The Prosecutor‘s Office‘s Vehicular Homicide Unit was requested to respond to assist in the investigation, since the crash details were unclear at the time of the call, Della Fave said.

Detective Mitch Remig responded to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, met Barnegat Patrolman Cranmer and interviewed a victim, he said.

“It was gathered that they were out in the woods with a large group of people off-roading when an off-road vehicle, possibly driven by a female, lost control and veered into the crowd of people,” Della Fave said. ”At this time, the investigating agencies are aware of five victims who were potentially injured.”

The investigation is continuing and the investigating agencies are seeking anyone with further information. The information can be given anonymously, he said.
