Senior Freeze Checks Being Mailed Out: 9th District Offers Assistance

The 9th Legislative District says they're ready to help residents who are filing for the Senior Freeze program.

TRENTON, NJ — The New Jersey Division of Taxation has begun issuing Senior Freeze checks through the state’s property tax reimbursement program, and Sen. Carmen Amato, Asm. Brian Rumpf and Asm. Gregory Myhre are ready to help residents in need of assistance.

According to the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, more than 125,000 state residents will be receiving reimbursement checks this year following the expansion of the program’s eligibility requirements that allow more seniors to qualify.

“Property tax relief continues to be the leading issue for a large segment of our constituents, including seniors who want to be able to afford to stay in their homes,” the delegation said in a statement. “Throughout this year’s state budget process, our Delegation remained firmly committed to fully funding property tax relief programs such as the Senior Freeze and the ANCHOR programs.”

The delegation said that assisting residents with Senior Freeze applications is a core aspect of their constituent service outreach efforts.

“While the Senior Freeze eligibility requirements have been eased, we understand and share the frustration of many of our constituents who still do not qualify due to having moved and thus required to establish a new base year. Eligibility complications in the Senior Freeze program only strengthen the case for the state to approve and fully fund the proposed Stay NJ Property Tax Credit Program to provide property tax relief to our seniors,” they said.
