Uncontested Incumbents Win Lacey Township Committee Primary

Though unopposed in the primary, one challenger is expected to face the incumbents in November's general election.

LACEY, NJ — The unopposed candidates for the Lacey Township Committee have won the primary election, according to unofficial results from the Ocean County Clerk's Office.

Results remain unofficial until certified by the clerk.

There are two open three-year committee seats and one one-year unexpired term seat, following the death of Mayor Nicholas Juliano.

Incumbents Steven Kennis and Peter Curatolo are vying for the three-year seats, while Peggy Sue Juliano, wife of the late mayor, aims to continue filling the unexpired term seat her husband left.

While these three were unopposed in the primary, they will face a challenger in the general election as Regina Discenza, former Lacey Township Board of Education member, announced her run as an Independent against the incumbents.

"No one should run unopposed - that defeats the very purpose of the election process," Discenza previously said when announcing her campaign.

Three-year seat:

  • Steven Kennis - 2,017
  • Peter Curatolo - 1,959

One-year unexpired term:

  • Peggy Sue Juliano - 2,077
