Woman Killed After Car Partially Overturns In Lacey: Police

The Whiting woman was trapped in her car after it went off Route 539, hit several trees and partially overturned, police said.

LACEY, NJ — A Whiting woman died after her car went off the road and partially overturned on Route 539 in Lacey, police said in a release.

First responders went to mile marker 20 of the road at about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 17 for the report of a crash, police said.

A 2012 gray Jeep Liberty was seen about 50 feet in the woods, partially overturned, police said. Trapped inside the Jeep was 72-year-old Rosemary Pfluge of Whiting, who was seriously injured, police said.

Firefighters from the Forked River and Whiting fire departments extricated Pfluge from the Jeep, police said. She was taken to Community Medical Center and later was pronounced dead.

Initial investigation found that Pfluge was heading north on Route 539 when her Jeep left the roadway, collided with several trees and overturned, police said.
